Addressing Overtourism in Bali: Distributing Tourists to Northern Regions
This is a Response to the Pariwisata Berkelanjutan wikithon
Bali is currently facing the problem of overtourism, with foreign tourist visits to Bali throughout 2024 reaching 6,333,360 people or increasing by 20.1 percent compared to 2023 (Bali Central Statistics Agency). This causes environmental damage, waste, and disruption of local life. Natural ecosystems, such as beaches and coral reefs, are also starting to be damaged. How to overcome this problem? One solution is to promote tourist destinations outside of densely populated areas such as the northern part of Bali (Buleleng, Karangasem, and Bangli). Developing these destinations can distribute tourists evenly, reducing pressure on crowded areas. The government and tourism industry can create tour packages to direct visitors to these areas. Promotion through social media and tourism platforms is also important to attract tourists. In addition, developing infrastructure such as accommodation and transportation in these areas will support more equitable tourism, maintaining Bali's appeal without damaging the environment and culture.
