Bali at a Crossroads: Balancing Tourism and Sustainability
This is a Response to the Pariwisata Berkelanjutan wikithon
Bali, as a global tourist destination, is now facing a major challenge in the form of overtourism that threatens the preservation of nature and local culture. Due to limited resources and a degraded environment, Bali's regional culture is being lost. According to data from UNWTO, Indonesia experienced a 15% increase in the number of international tourists in 2019, contributing to overcrowding in Bali. However, the solution to mitigate this impact is in our hands. By implementing sustainable tourism management, such as limiting the number of visits and increasing regulations on mass tourism, we can keep Bali alive and well. Moreover, educational programs for tourists on the importance of respecting culture and the environment are necessary. Some may argue that limiting tourism will hurt the economy, however, facts show that the long-term damage will be more detrimental. Let's together support the efforts to safeguard Bali by prioritizing sustainable tourism for a better future.
