Overtourism in Bali: Between Economic Benefits and the Threat of Traffic Jams
This is a Response to the Pariwisata Berkelanjutan wikithon
Overtourism in Bali occurs due to the surge in tourists that has an impact on the environment, culture, and people's lives. According to kumparan.com, the tourism sector contributed IDR 54.6 trillion or 19.9% of Bali's GRDP in 2023, providing major economic benefits for Indonesia. However, negative impacts also arise, one of which is congestion in tourist areas such as Canggu and Ubud due to the high number of vehicles rented by tourists.
To overcome congestion, efforts are needed to reduce pressure on the main tourist areas by promoting alternative destinations such as North Bali and West Bali. In addition, holding tourism events in various locations can help spread tourist visits so that they are not only concentrated in one point. With this step, Bali can maintain a balance between economic benefits and environmental sustainability !
