Unraveling the Knots of Overtourism, Re-embroidering Bali's Self
This is a Response to the Pariwisata Berkelanjutan wikithon
Bali, the jewel of world tourism, is now facing major challenges due to overtourism that threatens nature and culture. To detoxify this “poison”, innovative and sustainable solutions are needed. First, tourist quota management must be implemented wisely so that the number of visitors does not exceed the carrying capacity of the environment. Second, destination diversification is important to reduce overcrowding in popular areas by developing indigenous villages and ecotourism. Third, implement Green Badge Tourism, an award for tourists who choose eco-friendly lodging, sustainable transportation, or contribute to conservation. Fourth, implement the Quota Tax System, a progressive tax that increases with the frequency of visits to popular destinations to encourage exploration of other places. Furthermore, support for sustainable tourism ventures from local communities should be strengthened, so that the economic benefits can be felt equally. With this multifaceted approach, Bali can remain sustainable, offer authentic experiences, and maintain a balance between tourism and cultural preservation.
