Overtourism in Bali has caused environmental damage, congestion, and economic imbalance, where profits flow more to big business than local communities. To “detoxify” these negative impacts, Bali should adopt a more sustainable approach. Limiting the number of tourists in certain destinations, as implemented in Boracay, Philippines, could be a solution. Higher tourist taxes can also reduce the number of budget travelers and redirect funds to environmental conservation. In addition, diversifying tourism to less developed areas of Bali could ease pressure on hotspots such as Ubud and Kuta. Education for tourists about local culture and environmental ethics should be strengthened so that tourism is not only economically beneficial, but also respectful of Bali's nature and people. If there is no concrete action, Bali risks losing its main attraction: its natural beauty and culture.
