Description
Education by providing learning activities for children and the community as well as designing simple tools (prototypes) as materials for teaching about Renewable Energy.
Why does the innovation or project matter?
At present the energy that we use is derived from fossils (remnants of living creatures covered by sediments) and this energy is used continuously to support everyday human life, both for cooking and lighting purposes. However the supply of energy derived from fossils, such as petroleum and coal, is running low. This fossil energy source requires a very long time to be formed again, and it produces environmental pollution that occurs during the process of converting fossil energy into mechanical energy through combustion. An example of environmental pollution is an increase in the level of CO2 in the atmosphere, causing global warming. If this pollution is not addressed, it can damage the ecosystem in our environment. To reduce the use of energy derived from fossil fuel sources, we can move to renewable energy sourced from nature in the form of water, sunlight, wind, ocean waves as well as to combustibles such as biogas and biomass. At present there are still many people who do not know about the use of natural energy sources, and only about 5% of them are using renewable energy. Therefore, it is important to have education programs for the community and for children. Efforts made to stimulate the interest of children in using renewable energy involve learning to design simple tools using energy sources readily available in nature.
How do you or your team know that the innovation or project is working (or making a positive contribution)?
Students will know what renewable energy is and also understand how it works through the use of simple tools operated by renewable energy.
What has contributed to the innovation or project working?
Students will understand renewable energy and they will be able to undertake energy saving activities in their own environment. In addition, there will be community education programs about developing renewable energy programs and implementing programs within the community.
What else would help the innovation or project be more successful?
Renewable energy should not only be of concern at the community level but also at the level of government so that programs can run in synergy.
Is the innovation or project self-sustaining? If not, what needs to be done for that to happen?
Yes.
What Balinese value does this initiative invoke?
Caring for the environment from the aspect of Palemahan, providing education from the aspect of Pawongan, and contributing to preserving nature is than aspect of Parahyangan. These three actions represent the practice of Tri Hita Karana.
