Description
Indonesia is the second-largest supplier of waste, with a total of 175,000 tons of waste per day. However, of this amount of waste, only 7.5% can be recycled. Garbage has become a global environmental problem from time to time. According to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management, what is meant by waste is the rest of human daily activities or natural processes in solid form. This waste is produced by humans every time they carry out their daily activities. Waste management applies a new paradigm, namely holistic waste management from upstream to downstream. Most of the waste donated by Indonesia is plastic waste. Plastic waste takes a long time to decompose, which makes the waste accumulate for decades, and can destroy ecosystems in Indonesia. However, plastic waste is still underestimated by many people, even though it can have an impact on our health. So let's reduce the use of plastic waste. Even a small amount of waste has a bad impact on the environment. What if there's a lot of trash? The garbage that we throw away migrates to the ocean, then the food we eat is mostly from the ocean, if by 2050 there is more plastic waste, then what we will eat in the future is plastic. However, waste must be assessed not as something that is thrown away, but something that can be reused. The waste we have is 70% organic, which has economic value. In addition, one way to reduce waste is to apply the 3Rs, namely, recycle, reduce, reuse
Why does the innovation or project matter?
Because it flashes in our minds, we are always looking for ways to make the information we summarize can be explained concisely, but still be understood by the audience. Especially in the era of increasingly advanced technology, important information can not only be conveyed through language (face-to-face), but also through works, such as songs, movies, and cinematography.
How do you or your team know that the innovation or project is working (or making a positive contribution)?
- Verify whether the elements listed are already present in our video scenario. If so, then we can ensure that this project will be implemented.
- We include closed captions on our videos, so that Deaf Friends can watch and understand the videos we make.
- Share the short videos that we make through various platforms, so that the audience reach is wider. What has contributed to the innovation or project working?
We hope that by sharing this short video, people will be more aware of the need of not taking garbage for granted. Apart from properly disposing of garbage, we strive to reduce waste generation, particularly plastic waste. That way, the hope is that the audience will be wiser in using plastic, such as by bringing their own drink bottles and using shopping bags.
What else would help the innovation or project be more successful?
We make short videos that are popular among young people, namely in the form of videography. And we have also added subtitles in 2 languages, namely Indonesian and Balinese so that our Deaf Friends can enjoy the convenience of watching and understanding the contents of the videos we make.
Is the innovation or project self-sustaining? If not, what needs to be done for that to happen?
Yes sustainable
What Balinese value does this initiative invoke?
There are light tradisional clothes
