Oka Rusmini's full name is Ida Ayu Oka Rusmini, born in Jakarta, July 11, 1967. She writes poetry, short stories, essays, novels. She is also a journalist. In 2014, she was awarded the Kusala Khatulistiwa Award for the poetry book Saiban. Her

figures and works are phenomenal and often controversial because they raise a number of issues of ancient Balinese customs and traditions that are detrimental to women, especially in the griya, the home of the Brahmins.

Oka also straightforwardly broke taboos, exposed issues of sex and erotica in a clear way. All of this can be clearly seen in the novel Tarian Bumi (2000) which has been reprinted and published in German under the title Erdentanz (2007). The novel is also heavily inspired by the art of Joged Bumbung, a social dance full of erotic movements that is very popular in Bali.


He has been invited several times to literary events at home and abroad. In 1992 he was invited as a guest poet in the IV Yogya Arts Festival. Participated in the 21st Century Poetry Minbar at TIM, Jakarta, 1996. Represented Indonesia at the ASEAN-wide writers' meeting in October 1997 entitled ASEAN Creative Writing Workshop in Jakarta. In 2002 and 2003 he was invited to the International Poetry Festival in Surabaya and Denpasar He was an invited guest at the Winternachten Festival held in Haque and Amsterdam in 2003. He was also a guest writer at the University of Hamburg, Germany, 2003.


A number of his poems and short stories have appeared in various mass media and cultural journals, including Matra, Kalam, Horison, and Ulumul Quran. His short story "Putu Menolong God" won the best short story award for Femina magazine in 1994. His novel Sagra received the best novelet award for Femina in 1998, and the best short story award in 1990 - 2000 from the literary magazine Horison for his work Pemahat Abad. His novel Tarian Bumi won the 2003 Literary Writing Award from the Language Center, Jakarta.


His works are Monologue Tree (poem, 1997), Earth Dance (novel, 2000), Sagra (short story, 2001), Kenanga (novel, 2003), Patiwangi (poetry, 2003), Color Kita (poetry, 2007), Pandora (poetry, 2008), Shell (novel, 2010). His novel Tarian Bumi has been translated into English entitled Earth Dance, and German under the title Erdentanz.

Pada 2014, meraih penghargaan Kusala Khatulistiwa Award untuk buku puisi Saiban. Sosok dan karya-karyanya fenomenal dan seringkali kontroversial karena mengangkat sejumlah persoalan adat-istiadat dan tradisi Bali yang kolot dan merugikan perempuan, terutama di lingkungan griya, rumah kaum Brahmana.


Oka juga dengan lugas mendobrak tabu, mendedahkan persoalan seks dan erotika secara gamblang. Semuanya itu dengan jelas bisa dinikmati pada novel Tarian Bumi (2000) yang telah dicetak ulang dan terbit berbahasa Jerman dengan judul Erdentanz (2007). Novel tersebut juga banyak diilhami kesenian Joged Bumbung, tari pergaulan penuh gerakan erotis yang sangat populer di Bali.


Ia telah beberapa kali diundang dalam acara kesusastraan di dalam dan luar negeri. Pada 1992 ia diundang sebagai penyair tamu dalam Festival Kesenian Yogya IV. Mengikuti Mimbar Penyair Abad 21 di TIM, Jakarta, 1996. Mewakili Indonesia pada temu penulis se-ASEAN pada bulan Oktober 1997 yang bertajuk Bengkel Kerja Penulisan Kreatif ASEAN" di Jakarta. Pada tahun 2002 dan 2003 ia diundang pada Festival Puisi International di Surabaya dan Denpasar. Pada 2003 ia menjadi tamu undangan Festival Winternachten yang diadakan di Haque dan Amsterdam. Ia juga menjadi penulis tamu di Universitas Hamburg, Jerman, 2003.


Sejumlah sajak dan cerpennya muncul di berbagai media massa serta jurnal kebudayaan, termasuk Matra, Kalam, Horison, dan Ulumul Quran. Cerpennya "Putu Menolong Tuhan" pernah meraih penghargaan cerpen terbaik majalah Femina pada tahun 1994. Novelnya Sagra menerima penghargaan novelet terbaik Femina pada tahun 1998, dan penghargaan cerpen terbaik pada masa 1990 - 2000 dari majalah sastra Horison atas karyanya Pemahat Abad.
