Abu Bakar, is a playwright and theater figure, born in Kediri, Tabanan, Bali, January 1, 1944. His father is Javanese and his mother is Balinese. Apart from theater, he also pursued literature and photography. There are many plays that he has performed and directed. He had visited several countries for artistic matters, among others, France and the United States.
In America, Abu performed his collaboration with Ikranegara artists in the form of the theatrical performance “Berani-Beraninya Waiting Godot” (1990). He also directed the performances “Kereta Kencana” and “Indonesia Luka” (both in 2012) and “Malam Jahanam” (2013). In the field of literature, apart from being published in several newspapers, his works have also been published in "My God Butterflies", "America Outside the Window" and "Fireflies". He also wrote a monologue script entitled “Wanita Batu” (2006) and television dramas “Comedy Hitam”, “Bali Crying (2004), and so on.
Abu is the founder of the “Polyclinic Theatre” and “Earth Theatre”.
Abu Bakar, adalah seorang dramawan dan tokoh teater, kelahiran Kediri, Tabanan, Bali, 1 Januari 1944. Ayahnya berdarah Jawa dan ibunya asli Bali. Selain teater, dia juga menekuni sastra dan fotografi. Ada banyak naskah drama yang telah dia pentaskan dan sutradarai. Dia sempat mengunjungi beberapa negara untuk urusan berkesenian, antara lain, Perancis dan Amerika Serikat.
Di Amerika, Abu mementaskan hasil kolaborasinya dengan seniman Ikranegara berupa pertunjukan teater “Berani-Beraninya Menunggu Godot” (1990). Dia juga menyutradarai pementasan “Kereta Kencana” dan “Indonesia Luka” (keduanya pada 2012) dan “Malam Jahanam” (2013). Dalam bidang sastra, selain dimuat di beberapa koran, karya-karyanya juga dibukukan dalam “Tuhanku Kupu-kupu”, “Amerika di Luar Jendela” dan “Kunang-Kunang”. Ia juga menulis naskah monolog berjudul “Wanita Batu” (2006) dan drama televisi “Komedi Hitam”, “Bali Menangis (2004), dan sebagainya.
Abu adalah pendiri “Teater Poliklinik” dan “Teater Bumi”.
