In north Bali, Pagerwesi is a very special and busy holiday. Preparing for this holiday is almost equal to how people in south Bali prepare for Galungan day. On Pagerwesi day, the Hindus in Bali worship the Lord as the ultimate perceptor of the universe. The procession is similar to Galungan,—people come temples to pray, there are many fruits and cakes, and houses adorned with laughter and happiness of the homecoming relatives. The special thing is that Pagerwesi means to protect oneself from darkness of mind. Knowledge one accepts should be dedicated to rightheousness.
