In English

Without warning, a fierce wind sprang up in Room 21. The book that Luh Ayu Manik and her friends were reading shook and then flew about the room. And from the pages of the dirty, torn and tattered book, horrid demons appeared. Luh and her friends wanted to run away but they couldn't move ... they were like statues. I Wayan and I Made wanted to scream ... but their lips were sealed shut and they couldn't speak.

In Balinese

In Indonesian

I Wayan dan I Made ingin berteriak keluar. Namun, bibir mereka terkatup tidak mampu bicara.

One Saturday, Luh Ayu Manik came early from school but her mother was late picking her up. Luh Ayu was busy playing with her mobile phone. She, then decided to go home using online transportation. Suddenly, the bike stopped in front of Peken Anyar. A burglar had taken out a tourist's bag. Luh Ayu turned into Luh Ayu Manik Mas and chased the burglar. She got the bag back. The tourist thanked her and gave her a book to show his gratitude to Luh Ayu Manik. The burglar was turned into the policeman. Luh Ayu Manik went home and put the book into Kamar 21, her special room to keep various book and also her computer. After having lunch, she read the book given by the tourist in Kamar 21. It was an encyclopedia about the countries in the world. Luh Ayu fell asleep. Her friends then came to her house and woke her up. They joined her reading in Kamar 21. There was an old book in the highest cupboard. They opened the book to read it. Suddenly there was a strong wind gushing into the room. A scary demon appeared from the book. They were really scared. All books are flying out of the cupboards, destroyed by the ugly demon. Luh Ayu got really mad. She turned into Luh Ayu Manik Mas and fight the demon. It turned out that the demons were angry because Luh Ayu did not take care of her book well. She rarely read them. Luh Ayu regretted her mistake. But she would not let the demons destroyed her books. She finally defeated the demons. Luh Ayu proceeded to her plan in making the mobile library. She took the books to Peken Anyar. That way, she let other children read and take care of the books. I really love the series because the idea of having a heroine as the main character of this book, despite the male dominance in Balinese culture. This second book successfully delivers a message that a book is worthy only when it is being read, not kept so neatly in a bookshelf. However, I don't think that the title really represents the content of the book, which tells mostly about the demons inside unread books, instead of how Luh Manik creates a mobile library.

Title : Luh Ayu Manik Mas – Makin Mobile Library

The comic is a teenage comic that tells us a story about Luh Ayu Manik who can change herself into an undefeatable heroine known as Luh Ayu Manik Mas. There are three sequels of this comic and in this second sequel, it will tell us how Luh Ayu Manik and her advanture related to books. It starts when she went home and saved a tourist who then gave her an encyclopedia. She put it on her own reading room. While she was reading it, she fell asleep and suddenly her friends came and surprised her. When one of her friends took dusty old book, suddenly monsters sprang out from the book. Luh Ayu Manik once again changed into Luh Ayu Manik Mas and saved her friends. From the event Luh Ayu Manik and her friends learned that book must be well kept and well used. Therefore, then they created a mobile library together to make the book more valuable. The book has a good theme about teenager who has a really good reading habit. At the end those teenagers also learned from what they have experienced. They find a very creative solution that benefits the book and also the most beautiful one it helps their community. The story can inspire other teenagers to love reading and at the same time thinking something creative solution for our community. The storyline is a bit surprising, since different from the other story, in this sequel we will see that Luh Ayu Manik change into Luh Ayu Manik Mas twice. What missing from this twice change is the sense of the climax of the second change is decreasing. It seems that the reader will always know that the heroin will defeat the monster easily without extra effort. It makes the climax failed to reach its goal. In terms of target reader, heroine is mostly has children as their target reader, without mentioning the avenger as an exceptional whole ages hero and heroine. Making Luh Ayu Manik as teenager may in one side can bring benefits as she can be the older generation that can act as role model for the reader. On the other side for children to understand teenage life may look like bit difficult because they do not experience it yet. Just like talking to stranger (tourist), ordering ojek, or organizing a moving library. Morover, this book is grade 5 in its reading level, which is sometimes to heavy for some children, so we must be more generous for the children about this.

Overal this book is a good start for comic which will motivate us to create more. The moral value, the good role model is what plus that we need to appreciate highly in this book. Some may need to be improve to suits the readers and make reading more fun to do.

The book entitled Luh Ayu Manik Mas, Making a Mobile library is such a good story book that should be read by kids, teenagers and also adult. The story tell us that books should be read and should be looked after. There were so many important things and knowledge that we can get from reading books. But books would not give any benefits if people just having books without any intention of reading or looking after them. The story of Luh Ayu Manik Mas, Making a Mobile library remind us to take more attention to books. If the books are no longer needed or we had read them many times, we can share them to other people. Many people need to read more and more books to improve their knowledge. The books that no longer beneficial for us can be great sources for other people. So the point is sharing books and knowledge.

In this story the main character, Luh Ayu Manik Mas and her friends share their books to children by making a mobile library. She had been reminded by some demons that appeared from the pages of the dirty books from her bookshelf in room 21. The demons were unhappy. Not only they were not read, they were not even picked up and cleaned. Luh Ayu Manik realized that what the demons said was true. She remembered her plan to take the books to Peken Anyar to create a mobile library using bicycles. Her aim was that more and more children would read. Luh Ayu Manik felt that she had become a useful young person because of her efforts to help others. Though she could not help in a material way, her efforts were useful because she could help to share knowledge through the mobile library.
