Soma ribek falls two days after Saraswati day (see Saraswati ini Ceremony section). The day after Saraswati day is called Banyu Pinaruh, and Soma Ribek is celebrated on the following Monday. In Soma Ribek day, Goddess Laksmi, or Sri, is said to be residing on beds during the day, and therefore it is forbidden for the people to take afternoon slumber on Soma Ribek if they desire sufficient wealth and fortune throughout the year.
Olden tradition prescribes that people should put some simple offerings on their bed in Soma Ribek day. Since this holiday is special for Goddess Laksmi and Lord Madhusudana (Lord Wisnu, her eternal consort), people pray for protection of wealth and knowledge. Although Soma Ribek has now become less popular than Galungan and Nyepi, the significance of this celebration is very important.
